There is always a possibility of book sharing…

Mary & Julie
The pub and business was bought March 2010 and opened for trading on August 7th 2010. It is jointly owned by Mary Rudkin, Artist and University Lecturer, and Julie Matthews, Actor.
Biggar Village was originally a Viking settlement. The Queens Arms was built in about 1600, originally as a row of very basic dwellings and later evolved into an alehouse. The bar, as it stands now, was added later as a teashop.
It’s the oldest public house in the area, with parts of the building dating back to 1600s. It is grade 11 listed and features include a beam from a ship from the Armada, a stone spiral staircase and a corbel fireplace. The pub is beamed throughout, with lime and hemp plaster walls.Outside, the cobbled courtyard makes an excellent al fresco eating area.
We now have 2 en-suite letting rooms, both a bit quirky, with low beams, so beware when going to bed after a pint or two… We have 2 ghosts (that we know of!) and have had various Ghost-busting teams round to explore.
Our pub is special, definitely a one off! We are half a mile from the beach and the village is very pretty. The island is like one big nature reserve, with incredible flora and fauna, and stunning views of the lake district hills in the distance.
We now have 2 CAMRA awards, 2011 Pub of the Season and 2013 Community Pub of the Year. and 2014 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor. We have been in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide from 2011.
We’re proud of our cellars and stock a wide range of local cask ales, including our very own Vanguard, from the Biggar Brewing Co-operative, Hardknott, Ulverston, Hawkshead, Stringers, Barngates and Cumbria Legendary Ales are all served in peak condition, earning us the prestigious title of ‘Pub of the Season’ from CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) in our first year of opening! Plus we have Bank Top, specially delivered from Bolton, as a small reminder of our roots! (both of us are Bolton lasses).
We also have a range of specialist lagers and fruit beers on draught. Not forgetting our bottles… choose from a range of chocolate beer, honey beer, Croglin Vampire, Quboid, Aether Black and Tokyo to name but a few.
Depending of ABV (Alcohol by Volume) the prices range from £2.60 to £5.20 per pint.
We host our very own Beer Festival in the Autumn, look out for more details on our Facebook Page.
