The Fox Inn was originally converted in the early 19th century from a single cottage to include two additional cottages that once formed a terrace. It shares its name with the title of a book, The Fox, written by DH Lawrence. The writer lived in the village between 1917 and 1918 and drew his inspiration from the surrounding countryside including the woods which stood across the road from the Inn.
We have introduced some new additions to our Food menu, a Pizza Oven and a Bradley Smoker. The pizzas are proving very popular, 2 for 1 on a Thursday, with homemade dough and thin crust. Gluten free options are also available with prior notice.
The Smoker and water bath are used to achieve beautifully cooked, tender meat including Baby Back Ribs, Hams, Venison and other specials the Chefs create. James says the Smoker gives the Chefs variation and enables them to be creative so that customers can enjoy a wide range of foods.
We also serve good traditional pub food with seasonal specials and options for children. This is particularly important to The Fox Inn’s young and enthusiastic Chef who is keen to deliver good, traditional, pub food at a high standard.
The pub has a good base of locals and an excellent atmosphere. Friday night has adopted the name of ‘Party Night’ when the whole village comes out. Earlier in the evening you will see a mix of friends and families dining in the restaurant and when the little ones go off to bed the adults can enjoy a couple more!
Saturday’s you will see locals playing cards, dominoes in the bar area and then every other Sunday, Jam night with the resident band, which gives people a chance to play and show their talent.
Every Tuesday at 9pm is our popular quiz night.
